For the past year, I have been working closely with NorCal MHA’s Workforce Integration Support and Education (WISE) program. WISE, which is funded by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), that focuses on helping individuals with lived experience secure and maintain peer employment in California’s public mental health system. In addition, WISE provides free training and technical assistance for employers seeking guidance around hiring, supervising, and supporting peer staff.
Between August 25 and October 3, 2016, WISE is hosting WISE California 2016, five regional conferences – one in each MHSA WET region – for both public mental health system employers and peer support staff/volunteers. These conferences feature targeted breakout sessions, in-depth workgroups, discussion panels, activities, entertainment, and high quality trainings, all of which are uniquely relevant to the work peers perform. Employers will also receive valuable information and resources to help them successfully incorporate peers into existing workplaces.
Central Region - Modesto: August 25
· LA Region - Los Angeles: September 9
· Southern Region - Ontario: September 15
· Superior Region - Redding: September 30
· Bay Area Region - San Jose: October 3
